Proper Flossing Explained

Flossing is an integral part of the tooth-cleaning process. It removes damaging plaque from between teeth and at the gumline, where periodontal (gum) disease usually begins to develop. Should you find using floss awkward or difficult, ask your dentist about the dental floss holders & special cleaning devices that are available.
Proper Flossing Is As Easy As 1 2 3 !

Here's how to do it quickly and easily:
  1. Break off about 15-18 inches of floss and wind most of it around each of your middle fingers.
  2. Hold floss firmly between your thumbs and middle fingers. Be sure to keep about 2-3 inches floss stretched between your two hands.
  3. Guide the floss between your teeth using a gentle rubbing motion. Slide floss up and down against the tooth surface and under your gumline. Floss each tooth completely with clean sections of floss.
-REPEAT STEP 3 FOR EACH TOOTH

Some people have difficulty using dental floss and may prefer another option to flossing. Such options include special toothbrushes, dental picks/sticks. If you choose these special dental cleaners, be sure to ask your dentist how to use them correctly to avoid injuring your gums.
